National Grid
National Grid is largest energy utility in the UK, and the second largest in the US.  With Visual KPI, National Grid was able to realize a six month ROI by delivering key data to their users, wherever they need it.

National Grid owns the high-voltage electricity transmission network in England and Wales, and the high pressure gas transmission system in Britain.  Its distribution business delivers gas to 11 million homes and businesses.

In the US, National Grid delivers electricity to approximately 3.3 million customers in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Rhode Island, and manages the electricity network on Long Island.  National Grid is also the largest distributor of natural gas in the northeastern US, serving approximately 3.4 million customers in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Rhode Island.

KeySpan's John Ragone was recently interviewed by Senior Technical Editor Dan Hebert.

Getting vital information to mobile workers is no easy task, but the job is a whole lot easier when all the technology fits together. That was behind the decision of KeySpan Corp., the largest electric generator in New York State, to use the latest version of Transpara Corp.'s Visual KPI to distribute performance metrics from generators, turbines and other equipment to engineers via advanced cellular phones. "It's about as simple as you can get," Ragone said. "It took us longer to get the purchasing in place than to launch the actual project." The return on investment was obvious when you consider that taking a turbine offline for repair could cost KeySpan hundreds of thousands of dollars a day, Ragone said. "This is insurance, essentially," he said of Visual KPI.
