ISPE Conference on Manufacturing Excellence
- "Biotech Giants Leverage KPIs for Operational Excellence" 25-28 February 2008, Hyatt Regency, Tampa, Florida Data management is becoming more daunting, as a result of the many disparate, ever-increasing data sources at work in the enterprise. By leveraging existing technology investments, as well as mobile devices already in use, organizations can deliver on-demand operations scorecards and role-based, actionable KPIs to employees throughout the organization and supply chain. KPIs are possibly the most under-valued tool in your organization. When distributed in a broad, consistent way, and when accessible on-demand, KPIs are critical for improving in-process batch management, remote monitoring, and maintenance/system reliability initiatives. This presentation will include an overview of how KPIs are used in a typical enterprise and a customer use case highlighting application of KPIs in biotechnology and pharmaceuticals. Specific KPIs in use at biotech customers will be discussed, along with the value derived from exposing these KPIs to the workforce on desktops and Blackberry devices.

Come and see why Western Power is using Visual KPI as: the key support tool for operational SCADA; a real-time trending tool for monitoring asset performance against limits; a real-time alerting tool for monitoring generation fuel mix and tracking the contribution of wind generation to their system total generation. Visual KPI will also be used as a KPI tracking tool for key customer, fault outage and duration measurements, such as the Customer Average Interruption Duration Index (CAIDI), a reliability index.
- “Once we realized the value of Visual KPI and potential for significant cost savings and increased productivity, we decided to increase adoption across the enterprise, to more than 900 users who will access business-critical operational data via mobile devices and traditional web displays,” said Julian Rouse, System Administration Manager at Western Power. “Visual KPI puts accurate and key operational information in the hands of people who need it, exactly when and where they need it, which more often than not, is out in the field. Visual KPI is fast becoming a must-have tool for us to improve our operations. For that reason, everyone from frontline SCADA support staff, System Controllers, Operations Engineers and Managers will rely on it for real-time tracking of operational conditions and asset performance.”
