To decommission or move an instance of Visual KPI 3.8 and later is a straightforward task, but these steps must be followed in order to successfuly remove the software.  The removal of prior versions of Visual KPI is essentially the same, but is treated by a separate FAQ Entry.

for this exercise, we will assume that your instance name is "MyVKPI" so wherever you see this, please replace it with your instance name.

  1. Remove Services
    1. Open a command prompt.  If using Windows 2008 later, right-click and elevate to Administrator when launched.  
    2. SC DELETE "Visual KPI Cache Server (MyVKPI)"
    3. SC DELETE "Visual KPI Alert Server (MyVKPI)"
    4. SC DELETE "Visual KPI AF Integration Server (MyVKPI)" -- Only for Builds 646 and higher
    5. SC DELETE "Visual KPI SQL Integration Server (MyVKPI)" -- Only for Builds 673 and higher
  2. Remove Web Site and Interfaces
    1. Open IIS Manager
    2. Open Application Pools and stop each of the following App Pools
      1. ASP.NET v4.0 TAPMyVKPI
      2. ASP.NET v4.0 TAPMyVKPIWS
      3. ASP.NET v4.0 TAPMyVKPIInt
      4. Any similarly named App Pools with MyVKPI instance name -- Only for Builds 646 and higher
    3. Remove web site
      1. Open Web Sites locate the correct web site containing the Virtual Directory MyVKPI
      2. In IIS 7, 7.5 remove all Applications from virtual directories (starting with deepest-level first and then moving up to the website Application).  Then delete the web site MyVKPI and all subdirectories
      3. In IIS 6, simply delete the web site MyVKPI and all subdirectories 
    4. Remove App Pools, locate and delete
      1. ASP.NET v4.0 TAPMyVKPI
      2. ASP.NET v4.0 TAPMyVKPIWS
      3. ASP.NET v4.0 TAPMyVKPIInt
  3. Remove Database
    1. Open SQL Server Management Studio
    2. Locate and delete the database named MyVKPI
    3. Check the box to "close existing connections"
  4. Remove files
    1. Open File Explorer
    2. Navigate to Program Files\Transpara\Visual KPI
    3. Delete the folder MyVKPI and all its subfolders
