Based on Microsoft Excel and used at design-time only, the Visual KPI Designer is a critical part of what separates Visual KPI from most other mobile BI, monitoring and dashboard applications. Why?
No-Code Deployment and Configuration
By making Visual KPI entirely data driven and having all design and changes take place in such a straighforward design tool, there is no need for implementation and coding. This is what allows us to deploy a fully functional enterprise system using real data and real devices in just a few hours. It also elimiates the big, expensive and time-consuming project.
In addition to design and configuration, the Visual KPI Designer has become a go-to rapid prototyping tool for testing KPIs, variations to your data hierarchy (by geography, department, other) and grouping or just changing naming and ordering in the system. Because you use the same tool for both, changes can be previewed immediately and made real in seconds. With Visual KPI, your rapid prototype IS the real solution.
Changes in Minutes
The Visual KPI Designer is an add-in to Microsoft Excel, and that makes it as easy to open, make changes and save as your favorite spreadsheet. Want to change the name or limit of a KPI, or change the data source for a given value? Again, it is as simple as Excel because it is Excel.
When you make changes in the Designer, you can preview them at any time. This eliminates switching between applications as you test new KPIs, limits and other attributes. Once you have it looking the way you want, it's as simple as saving the new configuration to the server and your system is up to date.
You Already Know How to Use It
Ah, user training. It is one of the biggest inhibitors to getting users to adopt any application in the enterprise. The team at Transpara knows this well and chose to remove this barrier by building the design tool right on top of Microsoft Excel. If you know how to use a spreadhseet, you already know how to use most of the Designer. Even better, Visual KPI takes advantage of the millions (or billions) of dollars of R&D that Microsoft puts into Excel every release and we get it for free.
Already Have Configuration Data?
Visual KPI now allows you to get your configuration data (groups, hierarchy, targets, limits and other attributes) from an external system like OSIsoft's PI AF and even custom applications. Once configured, Visual KPI stays in sync with your external configuration data on the fly, so changes to your structure, navigation and data can all change as the source changes without ever needing to make changes in the Designer. The possibilites are endless, and it is especially powerful when attached to Big Data and other large and constantly changing data sets.
